Q: Can I utilise the unused concessional contributions from the previous five years if I have $150,000 in super in accumulation phase but also have $600,000 in a pension phase?

A: Your eligibility to use the carry forward of unused concessional contribution cap is based on your total super balance on the prior 30 June.

Your total super balance includes balances in both the accumulation and retirement phase.

In your example, if you had $150,000 in accumulation and $600,000 in retirement/pension phase last 30 June, then you are not eligible to use carry forward this financial year because your total super balance was $750,000 on 30 June, which is above the threshold of $500,000.
