Frequently asked questions
Why should I book tickets?
We provide affordable advice that puts you first. It’s incredibly sad how uncommon that it is. We don’t receive any commissions, we don’t push products, we give advice that is free of conflicts, free of obligations and free of rubbish.
We are affordable, we are experts, we are independent, we have the highest qualifications, we have the highest pedigree of experience.
We are the best, for you.
What’s in the workbook?
Our workbook, given to every participant, contains:
- Details of what we consider the best super funds in the country (they’re all industry funds).
- Scripts for anyone seeking to undertake any of the recommended strategies, i.e. so you can call your existing fund and implement any of the strategies.
- Detailed but easy to follow checklists so you can implement strategies, safely.
- Case Studies, which whilst general advice, may help you identify which strategies might benefit you and how.
Again, for the majority of people, the combination of the workbook and the workshop isn’t just the perfect starting point for planning your retirement, but for many people, all you’ll ever need.
Who is giving the advice?
My name is Andy Darroch. I live in Sydney, I’m from country Queensland.
I’ve worked in financial services for over a decade including institutions like Macquarie Private Bank & 125 year old stockbroker Wilson HTM.
After witnessing first-hand how endless layers of fees, unnecessary complexity, biased advice and rife conflicts of interest eroded any benefits for clients, I opted to provide honest advice, which put clients first.
That’s why I in 2021 I started my own independent business, Independent Wealth Advice.
The Honest Adviser is the evolution of this idea and this ethos.
I think financial advice could be much more accessible and much less conflicted. I also think the advice should always help the client more than it helps the adviser providing it. I’m not paid by or aligned to any fund or any company. I work for myself. I own my own business.
Our motto is fairly simple,
Advice that puts clients first.
What qualifications do you hold?
I’ve got a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from the Queensland University of Technology, from 2020 and 2024 I was a CFP Accredited adviser (they say it’s the highest qualification for financial advisers – it was difficult, time-consuming and expensive – however, I don’t think I’m any better an adviser as a result of it), I’ve got a Diploma of Financial Planning (Kaplan) and I’m an accredited as an SMSF Specialist (University of Adelaide).
Is The Honest Adviser Independent?
Yes, we are is completely independent.
We are not affiliated with any super fund, bank, insurance company, or any kind of financial institution.
We don’t receive any commissions, kick-backs, sales incentives or sales pressures.
We are 100% owned by staff.
What isn’t The Honest Adviser?
We are not some ‘money coach’ that’s going to advise you what brand of pasta to buy or how to save 3% on your power bill and tell you that we need catch up regularly and you need to pay me a fee so I can help you “reach your goals”.
We are not some product pusher that’s going to try to fill you up with more insurance than you need and some garbage third rate bank product who you will never hear from again
We are not some suburban financial planner who is going to put you in a portfolio of managed funds that never changes, charge you 1% of your balance and speak to you once a year.
We are not a stockbroker that is going to convince you to set up an SMSF and invest in Australian stocks and bank hybrids for franking credits.
We are not some sleaze social media con-artist telling you that you can retire and trade stocks, options, FX or crypto and live on the beach, drive a Lambo just by subscribing to my training plan and following my strategies.
We are honest, expert retirement advisers.
What is General Advice?
General advice is a recommendation or opinion about a financial product that is not tailored to your personal circumstances. This advice won’t consider your personal circumstances, such as your:
- income
- expenses
- assets
- liabilities
- goals
- risk tolerance
General advice may help you to identify and narrow down your options. But it won’t tell you how to make the best financial decision for your personal situation.
General advice is different to factual information. This information can give you useful facts about a financial product. Examples of factual information may include descriptions of:
- the basic features of a superannuation account
- the fees and interest rates on a new term deposit
Factual information is usually free and available from places like websites, banks and seminars. A licence isn’t needed to provide factual information.
Our workshops employ both General Advice and Factual Information and it’s our opinion that not only is this the perfect starting point for anyone thinking about their retirement, but for a lot of people, all that’s required.
Are the tickets tax deductible?
At this stage, the price of the ticket is not tax deductible, however we are seeking specialist legal advice to investigate if this can be possible.
Why a workshop?
As described in the video above, after speaking to hundreds and hundreds of people sicne starting Independent Wealth Advice in 2021, it’s apparent that many of the common questions, strategies and advice have the same or similar answers.
We believe a workshop (seminar, masterclass, etc) is not only the most affordable way to provide advice, but the most effective.
We don’t believe retirees want an app, an online course, but rather the same way we are instructed and learn virtually everything, in person, with examples.
What if I need personal Financial Advice?
Whilst we would say this isn’t the default or even necessarily likely, if, you realise you need more personalised financial advice after attending, you’ll be able to.
If we have capacity, you will be welcome to engage our financial planning practice, Independent Wealth Advice (or any other financial adviser you deem fit). We will be offering discounted advice to any participants, however this is subject to availability.
Regardless of whether you do need advice, or indeed whether you chose to pursue that through our related business or any other financial planning business, the Retirement Masterclass is the perfect starting point.
You will leave far more informed and educated, and regardless of your circumstances, better placed to understand what you need.
What is the refund policy?
Refunds are available up to 7 days prior to the event
